    I can't see the reasoning to sign up for a credit card if you have bad credit. This is the reason that America is in such poor debt as it is.

    While that may be true, there are those that were hit with unforeseen circumstances, such as a catastrophic illness, loss of long time job, etc. that created the bad credit problem. When these folks want to get on their feet, sometimes this and your local bank secured card are the best way to rebuild it.

    Personally, I prefer just using a credit card for tracking purchases and spending habits, but pay in full every month.
