10 foods that vegans can't eat

submitted on January 25, 2011 by vectra5 in "Member's Lounge"
Vegans, like vegetarians, never eat meat. But vegans are stricter, shunning not only meat, but fish and shellfish (which some vegetarians will eat), eggs, milk and other dairy products -- any food with an ingredient derived from an animal, from a cow down to an insect.

1. Meat
2. Fish and shellfish
3. Dairy products
4. Eggs
5. Honey
6. White sugar
7. Most beer
8. Some breads
9. Marshmallows
10. Salad dressing

Fish eating vegetarians are called Pescatarians (pescatarian is not technically a vegetarian)

I tried doing the vegan thing after reading the book, "Skinny B****" (I do not recommend). It is difficult and expensive to be a vegan. Not a whole lot of dining out options.

Some of my Indian friends are able to do it and maintain a budget too. Yes eating out does require some planning.

It really should be all beer. Vegans believe that the yeast that ferments beer counts as an animal.

WHAT? Their thinking is getting damaged from not enough nutrients. I don't like meat but my drs yell at me to eat it saying I need niacin, iron, protein, fat, calories...so I try to hide in salads. Wendy's new salad w/chicken, fruit & nuts is o.k. until I bite into any fat or grissel then I pick out all the meat. Could NEVER be a vegen 'cause I love my sugar & desserts! Can they really say they are ENJOYING life when it's so restrictive?? Some need to restrict for health reasons such as obesity (mostly hereditary or glandular- I have Hashimoto's disease, thyroiditis) or other, like hubby has gout & is suppose to limit meat to 3 four oz serving per wk starting 5 yrs ago. He couldn't so now he has to take b.p. & cholesterol meds & is obese.

My wife has a recipe for vegan chocolate cupcakes. They are very yummy and my absolute favorite. They're moist and delicious even without the butter, eggs, etc.
