Airlines start charging fees for buying tickets with a credit card

Have to wonder what other types of fees are coming

Two discount air carriers, Spirit Airlines and Allegiant Air, now charge fees to customers who pay by credit or debit card. Spirit adds a $4.90 passenger usage fee for bookings not made in person at its airport locations. And Allegiant applies a $14 surcharge to tickets booked through its Web site but waives this "convenience" fee if you buy in person at one of its ticket offices. Both are de-facto credit card fees.

What next -pay toilets? Perhaps I should keep that to myself -don't want to give them any ideas.

The airlines are already hurting the economy and local business with its add-on fees on lugguages. People are avoiding the extre fees by buying little or nothing at the travel destinations. In turns, people will travel less. It just hurts all travel business. They'll have to keep coming up with new fees to make up for the lost revenue. The pay-toilet thing will be here soon or later.

In the case of Allegiant it's not really a credit card fee so much as a way for them to advertise lower prices than are realistically available.

You can get their low price if you drive to the airport and pay in person (with a credit card if you choose), but that's going to take hours and how much is your time worth?

At the very least its deceptive, but what do you expect from a budget airline?
