The cause is noble but it can hardly be called a charity, it is more a case of smart marketing. There are still many ways how the restaurant can make money of the certificate holder (mostly because these certificates have so many restrictions). The fact that Restaurant.com is able to give them away at 60-90% off discount is the proof.
The bottom line, if you are in need and really want to save then eat home.

Great program. Yes it is marketing, not charity, especially since most $10 GCs require a $20 or $25 purchase, and often 2 ore more diners in the party.
