For a limited time we're letting new customers download the previous version of Anime Studio absolutely FREE!
Anime Studio is your complete animation program for creating 2D movies, cartoons, anime or cut out animations. Create your own desktop animated shorts in the style of SouthParkStudios.com and JibJab.com, or use it to produce full-length animation for film, video or streaming over the web.
Cart says it's a 30-day trial and requires a credit card to download. Have seen too many issues where merchants charge you anyway and the credit card companies back them up.
Yeah right it's free, free for 30 days then they charge it to your credit card! Advertising "free trial offer" is one thing, but this is down right deceptive! If you aren't paying attention at check out you'll miss the small note about the" after the 30 day trial is over your credit card will automatically be charged for the full amount" notice.
I'm pretty sure it's not a 30 day trial. I think that "30 day trial" bit is just genreal fineprint for the checkout. All the rest of the fine print I read seems legit. The process never asked for a credit card number anywhere, and the price was listed as $0. At the end of the checkout, it gave me a download link and a product key. I installed the program, and when I first started it it, it booted in trial mode, and I pasted in the product key which made it the full version.
Well, the fine print is a bit deceiving. Here is what a message above the shopping cart says (the highlight is mine):
When paying by credit card, the billing information should be exactly as it appears on your credit card statement. For credit card verification, please ensure that your first and last name are entered as they appear on your card.
You will not be charged during your 30 day FREE trial period. We will verify your credit card is valid and in good standing through a credit card authorization. If you do not cancel within 30 days of your sign up date, you will be charged for the amount of the product shown above, plus any taxes.
The thing is, at no time during checkout does it require your card. So simply having gone through the sign-up process ought to have clued most folks in to the fact that this is free.
That having been said, I can see why folks would be hesitant. Like someone else said, the general purpose "fine print", so to speak, is a bit confusing.
