Make Mother’s Day Memorable with ♥
April 26th, 2010
It’s time to begin thinking about Mother’s Day gifts. This holiday is a wonderful opportunity for us to acknowledge the hard work and loving care that is a part of motherhood, and to honor all the special mothers in our lives in unique and creative ways. Mothers are incredible multi-taskers and jacks-of-all-trades who juggle family, food, home, career, and more with style. Whether you plan to get her one of the traditional gifts or something more unusual, we at Buxr want to share some ideas and help you save money, too!
You can always get her classic gifts like flowers, candy, books, candles, fragrances, or personalized items, custom photo gifts, or birthstone bracelets with a stone for each child or grandchild. While flowers are beautiful, choosing a green plant or orchid would last longer and require very little maintenance, only a bit of water every few days. Photo gifts are great if you live far away, or just to remind her of special moments in your lives. Have some favorite family photographs matted and framed for her to enjoy or take a recent photo and have it printed on canvas. Mothers and grandmothers who like jewelry would wear birthstone bracelets with pride. Get her something she wouldn’t buy for herself – luxurious linens like Egyptian cotton sheets, or solar-powered flower lights to enjoy outside.
Mother’s Day should be an occasion to pamper her by choosing something to indulge her or lighten her load. You could prepare her breakfast in bed, or take her out for a family dinner. You can print up some gift certificates yourself for personal services from here and here, including: Breakfast in Bed, Free Babysitting, Free Maid Service, Hot Coffee Served Bedside, Walk the Dog, Control of the TV Remote All Week Long, Laundry Service – Wash, Dry and Fold, Free Ironing Service for a Day, or fill in the blank. If you can’t do the work yourself, you can still help her out by hiring a service to clean the house for her, or order some meals to give her a break from the food preparation. On her behalf, hire the services of a baby sitter, a hair stylist, a masseuse, a makeup artist, an interior decorator, a manicurist, or a personal trainer. Sign her up for a fabulous spa day or acupuncture session; buy her a wine tasting basket.
What are her hobbies? If she has the time and enjoys handicrafts, buy her a kit to make. Buy her a new camera or new family cell phone plan; get her a domain or blog page and help her get started to post photos from her new camera. Build or buy her some outdoor furniture or a swing or glider for the porch. Give her a chance to explore a new passion. If she has mentioned an interest in art, music, gourmet cooking, singing or golf, sign her up for lessons. If she has always wanted to play an instrument, rent one for her and locate a teacher.
For very little cost, you can mix a CD of her favorite tunes; let the kids make a handmade card or scrapbook for her, or help to bake her a cake or cookies. Let them choose a project from this list of 151 great Mother’s Day craft ideas. Organize a surprise party, a picnic, a museum outing, a treasure hunt, a photo shoot, an amusement park visit, or an outlet mall shopping spree. (Be sure to check Buxr for coupons before you go to the mall!)
You can show Mom your appreciation in so many ways, from elaborate gifts to simple ideas. Get her something that makes her feel good, rather than something too practical, unless you know she really wants it. The most important thing is to remember your mother and let her know how much you love her, not just on Mother’s Day but throughout the year. ♥
