October contest results are in!
October 31st, 2008
Wow, November is almost here, and it marks the end of another successful month for Buxr.
October Monthly Contest Results
1st Place: TheBest with a total of 195 points! TheBest has “bested” her previous record of 189 points. This is the first time a Buxr community member has won the 1st prize two months in a row and highest score on record for the monthly contest. Congratulations to TheBest who is an excellent competitor and true value to the Buxr community.
2nd Place: Ashley with a total of 181 points! Ashley wins our second place prize with a balanced attack of voting and deal submission. This is Ashley’s best finish in the monthly contest, and for that she will be rewarded handsomely.
Thanks Ashley for your continued support of Buxr.
3rd Place: Solstice with a total of 151 points! Congratulations to Solstice who earns the third place prize. Solstice is a long time member of our community whose contribution has been phenomenal! If there was an MVP award at Buxr, Solstice would surely win.
Because the monthly contest has been such a success we are bumping up the total prize pot to $500 for November. Go to the monthly contest page and pick your prize amounts. You must vote by November 15th.
October Refer a Friend Contest Results
I guess people are still not keen on the “refer a friend contest.” I must admit Yan and I are stumped as to why this hasn’t been more successful. The prizes are there, the barrier of entry is low, so you would think people would be more motivated. Nevertheless, a few smart users out there participated, Bionicle took the lead and never looked back. Unfortunately, Bionicle is 1 referred user short of the prize win. Because we value his effort and the contributions he’s made to the site, Yan and I have decided to reward Bionicle with half of the first prize (that’s $75 cash if you are counting)!
Almost 1st Place: Bionicle with 4 referred good friends. Congratulations to you and thanks for your support.
Also we would like to mention that the prize amounts have changed to $50 to each of the top 3 winners.
Continuing Improvements at Buxr
Yan has continued to add features at an impressive pace. For those of you who haven’t noticed, we’ve added a lively discussion forum. This is the place to dish about the latest deals, local or one time use coupons, or just something you have on your mind. Please join us there, we want to hear from you.
We’ve also added a filter for expired deals, voting threshold, and deal sorting. These are great tools for filtering out the noise and keeping focus on what you are interested in.
Yan has also added a coupon history, which is very useful for shoppers. You can use it to see other coupons available from the same merchant. For example you may find a coupon that can make an existing deal even hotter.
The Quest for Community
As we move into the peak of the shopping season, we are excited to see how far we’ve come. At the same time, we realize how far we have to go. We are redoubling our efforts to empower community members, especially folks who have been with us for a while. Look for announcements to come in soon. We are doing this because ultimately Buxr is your site!
Again thanks to everyone who has participated this month, and throughout the year. We could not have made it without you guys. Please tell your friends about Buxr, and help spread the word. It’s your efforts that have truly made this site a success.
Cheers,
Mike & Yan

Thank you to all who voted, I could not have done it without you.
Congrats to TheBest, and a special congrats to Ashley, who in her second month of membership garnered the silver medal!
I’ll still be here voting to return the favor, and good luck to all those who plan on working their way to one of the top spots.
