A new age in advertising

As most new bloggers and webmasters come to realize, it isn’t easy getting links or readers to visit your site. Sure you could run a Google Adwords campaign, but this method is both tricky and sometimes very costly. Well if there is a need in the market, you count on creative entrepreneurs to solve it — along came Payperpost.com and Reviewme.com. Both services offering a blog “review” of your site with Google friendly direct links. Needless to say they both services are now extremely popular if not controversial methods of advertising your site.

Introducing Payperwidget.com

SnipperooPopular widget directory Sniperoo, has launched a new service and site called Payperwidget. This new service lets widget owners pay bloggers to feature their widget at a specified price. The price is set by widget owner, and can also be bundled with “distribution rewards.”

Payperwidget could be invaluable form of advertising for new widgets to gain traction in an already crowded market.

Who is the Payperwidget audience?

Bloggers and site owners are the publisher targets, and in fact can already sign up as potential publishers. Payperwidget has a fast and simple application page, which inquires about some of the keywords your site is focused on. Collecting keyword data is important, as it allows widget advertisers to target their ads.

For widget creators and owners, you simply sign up for a Sniperoo account, and you will receive access to the Payperwidget control panel.

What are the benefits?

The benefits are clear, this is another method of monetizing your blog or website. Now money making widgets can be virtually ANY widget!

This also benefits smaller widget developers who don’t have the budget to mass market their widgets. Pricing is left up to the widget owner, with an option for distribution rewards.

What are the potential drawbacks?

Should blogger be required to disclose that they are being paid for placement? In my opinion it is still unclear – there are many definitions on what a widget even is (some banners are being called widgets today). Moreover, I believe a lot of the controversy will be related to the content or function which the widget produces. If the widgets promoted are of low quality, this might start a backlash among loyal and sensitive bloggers.

Final thoughts

I really like the idea of Payperwidget because it gives some power to the little guy. The non-venture capitalized developer struggling to compete with big guys. I think Payperwidget could potentially be highly successful even though are still a lot of unanswered disclosure and blogger acceptance.
